Privet

Tree hight 10cm, 15 years old
This tree give me a lot of pleasure every year since I got it from my bonsai friend 7 years ago.
Privet is a very common and versatile plant. It has been used to make walls, ground fences..

The flowers are small and fragrant and the fruits are small purple to black drupes.
Another joy of bonsai is in selecting a pot for transplanting.  To find/select a well-fitting pot from many different pots in size, shape and color always make me exicting.
For evergreen, needle-leafed trees, use pots of red earthenware, dark gray earthenware.
For deciduous flowering trees, use celadon porcelain pot if the flowers are white or yellow,
and use grey ones if the flowers are red.  For deciduous trees with fruits, use white earthenware
or violet earthenware.  Usually don't use pot of same color with flower and fruit.
Personally I feel yellow pot is well matching with white flower and black fruit of privet tree.
It ensure the enjoyment of pot as well as the tree.

Elm

Tree hight 10cm,  10 years old.
I have been taking care of this tree for 6 years.  It grew up to a sweet tree.
Elm is a deciduous tree and its small leaves are pretty after turning yellow in autumn.
The joy of minibonsai is in keeping trees in tiny pots over a long period of time.
It would at first glance appear to be difficult to keep them in such small pots, but in reality
the pots also tend to limit the growth of the trees as their roots are unable to grow freely
in such a confined space. So, without any complicated care, these trees will gradually start
to exhibit their natural shapes on a small scale within the bounds of the miniature pots.
The longer you keep the trees in the pots, the manifestation of the roots stretching out

along the ground, the texture and patterns of the bark, the tiny flowers and resultant fruits
and berries become more real and touching.
This is why we recommend that you start creating bonsai early and keep them longer.

Korean Hornbeam

Tree hight 12cm
15 years passed after a branch cuttage.
I have been taking care of this bonsai for about 8 years.
Hornbeam tree has small pretty leaves. It has long been liked as a bonsai
In minibonsai, it is important to restrain the strength of the top part.
Because it tends to become weak as much as the bottom branch, the bottom branch is left long, and it is important to measure a balance with the top part.
The branches of top part which tends to become strong is cut after 1 bud or 2 bud, and it tries again so that it doesn't make the twig of the bottom grow weak.
As for the transplantation, in 1-2 years, once. About early April is suitable.

Korean Hornbeam

Tree height 12cm
I have been taking care of this minibonsai tree for about 6 years.
It was born from a cuttage, and when I got it, it was already 12 years old.
On the trunk, there were stripe pattern, and it was showing the mature age of the tree.
It show very good root development. It was the result of growing it in a small pot slowly.
Pinching new buds, leaf pruning and wiring is important to keep the shape of the mini bonsai.
